Arkema Increases PVDF Capacity by 15% in the US for €20M
Arkema has commissioned a 15% increase in its polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) capacity at its Calvert City site in Kentucky. This $20 million investment, announced in February 2025, was completed on schedule and within the initial budget, strengthening the group's position in this specialty in response to growing demand from the energy and electronics sectors.
A $20 Million Investment Executed On Time
Arkema has successfully started the 15% increase in its PVDF capacity at Calvert City, Kentucky. This investment of approximately $20 million, announced in February 2025, was finalized on time and within the initial budget. The group emphasizes that this execution demonstrates its project management rigor and expertise in conducting industrial investments.
Meeting the Growing Demand for Data and Electrification
This additional capacity will enable Arkema to serve growing markets supported by global trends in energy transition and digitalization. The group specifically targets the increasing demand for lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, the expansion of data centers driving demand for cables and infrastructure, and the semiconductor sector. Laurent Tellier, Deputy Managing Director of High Performance Polymers and Fluorinated Gases at Arkema, points out that 'this extension marks an important step in strengthening our position as a global leader in PVDF' and reflects 'our rigorous approach to capital allocation'.
Complementing Expansion in Asia
Arkema has also recently announced a 20% increase in its PVDF capacity at its site in China, scheduled to come online in 2028. With production sites in North America, Europe, and Asia, the group is pursuing a geographically diversified sourcing strategy to support global growth and ensure international supply continuity.
