bioMérieux Launches Gene-Up Typer SLM to Track Salmonella in the Food Industry
bioMérieux announced on Thursday the launch of GENE-UP TYPER SLM, a real-time PCR diagnostic targeting Salmonella specifically in the food industry. This new solution complements the range launched at the beginning of 2025 and relies on a technology for rapid strain characterization.
The GENE-UP TYPER SLM test allows for rapid analysis of the origins of food contaminations by discriminating Salmonella enterica strains in production environments. Once the pathogen is detected and isolated during a routine test, DNA is extracted and amplified, then the result is transferred to bioMérieux's AUGMENTED-DX web application. Powered by machine learning, this application assigns a unique address to each strain and groups them into 'clusters', enabling a progressive trace back to the source of contamination for better control of the production chain.

GENE-UP TYPER SLM is an addition to the GENE-UP TYPER LMO test, dedicated to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes and launched at the beginning of 2025. This new solution benefits from several years of research and development, enhanced by the contribution from Mérieux NutriSciences, a subsidiary of the Institut Mérieux and a leader in food safety. Mérieux NutriSciences will retain co-exclusive rights to perform tests in key geographical areas where diagnostic processes are outsourced, thus ensuring the availability of the solution for all food and beverage producers, whether they have an internal laboratory or outsource analysis.
