Bouygues Construction Delivers a 160,000 m² Logistic Platform to Amazon Near Lyon
Bouygues Construction has recently completed a 160,000 m² logistic platform for Amazon, located near Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport. The project, completed in 20 months, leveraged the combined expertise of the Bouygues group and demonstrates the French construction giant's ability to manage large-scale operations for major global logistics players.
A Massive Structure with Advanced Technical Requirements
The platform spans 359 meters in length and 154 meters in width, with a height of 19 meters. It is built on a prestressed concrete structure and is organized across three levels. The ground floor houses the reception, sorting areas, and loading docks, while the upper levels (R+1 and R+2) are dedicated to storage and picking.
The East and South facades feature translucent polycarbonate cladding (Danpatherm K12 system) due to the immediate proximity to Lyon airport. The North and West sides are covered with rock wool sandwich panels. The building includes high-precision floor slabs on the upper floors, ensuring the flatness required for the operation of autonomous mobile units in the logistics process.
A Project Involving Multiple Subsidiaries of the Bouygues Group
The project was led by Bouygues Bâtiment Industrie within a consortium that included Bouygues Construction, Colas (Perrier), Equans France (Ineo and Axima), and the architect Archi-Factory. According to Guillaume Allais, Regional Director South-East of Bouygues Bâtiment Industrie: "This platform, built for Amazon, showcases the ability of Bouygues Bâtiment Industrie to manage large-scale logistic operations. Success was based on controlled organization and tight coordination of all parties involved."
Seven early handovers allowed Amazon to install its processes in parallel with the ongoing construction. For six months, up to 600 people were present on the site, combining construction teams and Amazon staff in a closely coordinated effort.
