Defense: Czech CSG Hires Executives from Rheinmetall, BAE, and Northrop Grumman
The Czech defense and aerospace group CSG is accelerating its integration into the global scene by attracting senior executives from Rheinmetall, Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems, and Kongsberg. This recruitment wave illustrates the group's transformation from a regional leader to a global player in just a few years.
From a Regional Enterprise to a Global Hub in Less Than Five Years
CSG has undergone a rapid transformation since its Czechoslovak origins. A series of international acquisitions, including Spanish company FMG, Italian Fiocchi, and American The Kinetic Group, has shifted the group to the status of a major player in the global defense industry. The group now employs over 14,000 staff and has production facilities in Europe, the USA, and Asia. This expansion accelerated following the group's IPO in January 2026, which enhanced its international visibility and solidified its position among the major European defense and industrial groups. According to Alena Kozáková, board member and director of human resources, 'the IPO fundamentally transformed the perception of CSG abroad.'
Recruitment of Executives from Defense Giants
The group recruited several high-level figures in 2026. Thomas Berge Nielsen joined CSG in April as the group's Chief Strategy Officer after spending over ten years at Rheinmetall, where he led international business activities and strategy. Ben Hudson was appointed in June as CEO of CSG Land Systems and Chief Technology Officer of the group. This Australian came from Hanwha and has held leadership positions at Rheinmetall, BAE Systems, and General Dynamics European Land Systems, as well as in the Australian army.
Strategic Arrivals at Regional and Operational Levels
David Jacobs, who spent nearly fifteen years at Northrop Grumman and Raytheon, was appointed in June as President of CSG Defense North America, heading the new Washington office. Matthew Harvey, with over twenty years of experience in defense and aerospace at BAE Systems, Leonardo, and Marshall Aerospace & Defence Group, joined Excalibur Army in May as Commercial Director. Tom Winney, former of KNDS, Rheinmetall, and BAE Systems, took the helm of Tatra Export in January. Alexander Rüstig, formerly leading German ammunition manufacturer RWS and having responsibilities at Schaeffler, joined the Fiocchi group at the beginning of the year. Peter Russell, recruited at the end of 2025, leads investor relations and capital markets, leveraging experience gained at Avast, Rentokil Initial, and J.P. Morgan.
