Philips and Imricor Present an Interventional MRI Solution for the Heart
Philips and Imricor have presented an interventional MRI laboratory solution designed for cardiac interventions guided by magnetic resonance. This configuration combines Philips' 1.5T MRI platform with Imricor's portfolio of MRI-compatible systems and consumables.
A Combined Solution for MRI-Guided Cardiac Intervention
On August 27, 2026, Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) and Imricor Medical Systems (ASX: IMR) announced a new interventional MRI laboratory solution for Philips' 1.5T MRI platform. The first commercially available configuration brings together Philips' 1.5T MRI platform and Imricor's portfolio of systems and consumables, enabling an MRI-guided workflow for cardiac intervention.
This solution is part of the ongoing collaboration between the two companies, presented as a further step aimed at integrating MRI-guided cardiac intervention into clinical practice. It targets catheter ablation, a treatment used for many complex cardiac arrhythmias, which currently relies primarily on X-ray fluoroscopy.
Composition and Technology of the Commercialized Configuration
The first commercially available configuration includes Philips' Cardiac MR Suite, with AI-assisted SmartHeart cardiac planning, as well as Imricor's NorthStar mapping and guidance system, the Advantage-MR EP recorder/stimulator and the Vision-MR electrophysiology catheter range. These technologies enable visualization of cardiac anatomy, catheter tracking, electroanatomic mapping and assessment of treatment response during procedures within Philips' 1.5T MRI environment.
The solution is based on Philips' BlueSeal MRI technology, without liquid helium, presented as reducing installation complexity and enabling deployment near cardiology departments.
Availability and Presentation at ESC Congress 2026
The solution will be presented in Munich at ESC Congress 2026 and is commercially available immediately in markets with CE marking, as well as, for certain configurations, in the United States. Additional Imricor configurations are expected in the United States and other markets, subject to regulatory approvals.
Philips has issued a third-party product compatibility statement for Imricor's interventional MRI equipment and consumables. According to the company, the NorthStar systems and Vision-MR diagnostic catheter are commercially available in the United States, with other Imricor products not yet authorized for sale there.
