Publicis Criticizes Overblown AI Promises in Advertising at Cannes Lions
Publicis Groupe is using the Cannes Lions Festival as a platform to advocate for a shift in the advertising and marketing sector: from technological promises to concrete proof of business results. The group criticizes the gap between the commitments made in AI-related tenders and what can actually be delivered.
Arthur Sadoun, Chairman and CEO of Publicis Groupe, highlights the 'overbidding of promises around AI' and the 'untenable commercial offers' that currently characterize agency pitches. According to him, this trend contributes to 'the trivialization of collective value' and fosters unrealistic commitments at the expense of genuine business results. The group finds this situation particularly concerning in a context of 'major upheavals', 'waves of layoffs', and 'existential questions' about the future of the sector in the AI era. Publicis calls for redirecting the conversation 'from AI demonstrations to concrete proofs of business results, from the cost of our services to the real impact of our work'.

At Cannes Lions, Publicis is organizing a session that brings together 350 clients and 70 investors, following Chatham House rules. This meeting will feature Gülen Bengi (Global CMO of Mars Inc.) and Shakir Moin (President, Marketing, North America, The Coca-Cola Company) to unveil a 'twelve-month transformation journey' demonstrating how AI promises have translated into tangible business results for two major clients who launched tenders in 2025. In parallel, Publicis will organize over 60 private sessions with its clients covering five sectors of activity and based on real case studies. These initiatives aim to illustrate a model where 'human ingenuity, enhanced by smart technologies, generates measurable growth'.
