Sopra Steria stock rebounds 2.5%, but remains below key moving averages
The share of the Annecy-based digital services group regains momentum this Monday, in an SBF 120 advancing nearly 1%. This rebound comes after several weeks of strong downward pressure that had brought the price to levels unseen for several months, with the stock nevertheless remaining in negative territory over one month.
A rebound occurring in a still-degraded technical context
Sopra Steria Group gains 2.47% to €162 during the session, ranking among the strongest gainers in the SBF 120. This recovery is insufficient to erase the 12.05% decline accumulated over one month, which reflects an underlying downtrend established since summer. The stock remains below its 20-day moving average (€169.44) and its 50-day moving average (€171.05), two mobile ceilings that curb today's rebound, with respective gaps of 4.39% and 5.29%.
Only the 200-day moving average, at €146.05, sits below the current price, offering a cushion of 10.92%. The RSI at 38, close to the oversold zone, reflects the selling exhaustion of recent weeks without signaling an established reversal. At the support level of €156.10, the price has a margin of approximately 3.6% before testing this key level, while resistance at €187.60 remains very distant.
Rising short positions and dual-reading valuation
According to reported declarations, four funds collectively hold 3.42% of Sopra Steria shares sold short, increasing by 0.62 points over thirty days (versus 2.80% one month earlier). This level, which exceeds the 3% threshold, reflects notable institutional selling presence, even if the increase remains gradual rather than abrupt: this point warrants monitoring, without inferring a massive loss of confidence. On fundamentals, the consensus of surveyed analysts values the stock at approximately 8.9 times expected earnings for the current fiscal year and 8.1 times those of the following fiscal year, with earnings per share growth projected at +10.4% from one fiscal year to the next.
As a reminder, upon publication of first-half 2026 results on July 29, 2026, Sopra Steria raised its annual organic growth target to a range of +2.0% to +2.5%, driven notably by strong growth in aeronautics (+12%) and defense-security-space (+10%). A sustained return of the price above the 20-day moving average, currently at €169.44, would constitute the first technical signal of a momentum revival.
