The Division 2: Ubisoft Launches Season 8 and Rebalances PvP
On Tuesday, Ubisoft released details of Season 8, Year 2, 'Into the Dark', for The Division 2, featuring the introduction of new combat zones, weekly rule rotations, and significant PvP rebalancing.
Three Weekly Rotations in the Dark Zones
The season introduces a weekly rotation system in the Dark Zones of Washington D.C., featuring three distinct sets of rules. The Toxic Dark Zone mode offers a PvE-centered experience (player versus environment) where PvP combat is disabled. Players must neutralize drug production and collect new chemicals stored in 'Sample Cannisters'. The Balanced Dark Zone mode normalizes the PvP experience by removing SHD power levels and expertise from the stat calculations, thus creating a level playing field. The Classic PvP Dark Zone mode caters to experienced players, with no power cap, allowing users to deploy their best character builds.
PvP Rebalancing and Talent Modifications
Ubisoft is launching a major PvP rebalancing campaign, identified as a long-standing community request. The initial update targets talents that have an excessive impact on the PvP meta, reduces some of the most significant power spikes, and expands the possibilities for competitive builds in Conflict and Dark Zone. The publisher also announces scheduled anti-cheat updates throughout the season.
New Gear and Season Modifiers
The season introduces new gear, including the Ortiz Reficere set (increases hazard protection while healing allies), the Edelweiss GPs brand set (increases weapon and skill damage of allies while healing them), the exotic Nurse's Kneepads (provide hazard protection to the wearer and nearby allies), and the exotic assault rifle Caduceus. A new system of modifiers includes one global modifier, three active modifiers (healing bonus, weapon swap speed, skill efficiency), nine passive modifiers, and three hostile modifiers that strengthen enemies. An upcoming incursion will involve a hydroelectric power plant threatened by the Rikers. Two new classified missions will be available: Conspiracy Zone Hideout (accessible from June 16) and McMillan Reservoir Assault (available later).
