Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Surpasses 3 Million Sales in One Week

On July 17, Ubisoft announced that the Resynced version of Assassin's Creed Black Flag exceeded 3 million copies sold within a week of its launch on July 9. This commercial success comes at a time when the French publisher is accumulating losses: the 2025-26 fiscal year ended with a net loss of €1.5 billion and an operating loss of €1.3 billion. Investors must assess whether this reboot of the flagship franchise can mark a return to profitability or remains an isolated signal amidst the group's structural challenges.

Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Surpasses 3 Million Sales in One Week

A Commercial Launch Driven by 2 Million Sales on the First Day

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced recorded 2 million copies sold on its first day (July 9), followed by 3 million for the entire first week. The remake, rebuilt from scratch with the latest generation Anvil engine, offers updated visuals and enriched mechanics (parry-based combat, improved stealth and parkour, deepened naval mechanics). The title is distributed on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Ubisoft Store, Steam, Epic Games Store), and Ubisoft+ subscription service. The acceleration in sales reflects an immediate demand for the product. Since the launch, Steam now shows a 'Very Positive' user rating, an improvement attributed by Ubisoft to post-launch support (patches, quality of life updates) and the announcement of a New Game+ mode anticipated by players.

The sales success comes after a fiscal year 2025-26 marked by significant losses. According to the results published on May 20, 2026, Ubisoft recorded revenue of €1.40 billion, an operating loss of €1.32 billion, and a net loss of €1.48 billion. The momentum of Resynced must therefore be seen in this context: the current sales of the game only cover a portion of the group's accumulated losses. Even if the title generates several hundred million euros in revenue over its lifetime, its contribution to the consolidated results will remain insufficient in the short term.

Rebuilding the Launch Portfolio for the Medium Term

In its guidance announced at the annual results, Ubisoft specified anticipating 'a significantly stronger and more diversified content pipeline for the fiscal years 2027-28 and 2028-29.' This outlook does not rely on detailed figures but expresses the intention to rebuild a more robust portfolio of launches after a period marked by commercial and development setbacks. The reboot of Assassin's Creed, historically one of the group's major franchises (over 250 million copies sold since 2007), is among the milestones of this relaunch. However, the delay until 2027-28 leaves fiscal year 2026-27 structurally exposed to the volatility of launches. The extent of normalization will depend on the group's ability to deliver not only sales volumes but also stable profitability.
