UCB: Bimzelx Associated with Better Resolution When Used Earlier
Belgian pharmaceutical company UCB presented a series of data on its drug Bimzelx (bimekizumab) at the Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV). The messaging highlights the benefit of earlier treatment in moderate to severe hidradenitis suppurativa.
Earlier Treatment Emphasized in Hidradenitis Suppurativa
UCB announced on September 30, 2026, the presentation of nine abstracts dedicated to hidradenitis suppurativa as part of the EADV 2026 Congress, held in Vienna from September 30 to October 3.
According to the data presented, earlier management is associated with higher rates of complete resolution of inflammatory lesions: at three years, 47.4% of patients with the shortest duration since diagnosis achieved IHS4-100, compared to 33.3% of those with the longest duration.
The company also indicates that patients naive to biotherapy achieved better results on draining tunnels in certain subpopulations, with complete resolution (DT=0) achieved at three years by up to 78.8% of naive patients according to post-hoc analyses of the Be Heard trials. At one year, 30.7% of patients treated with bimekizumab were free of any tunnel, draining or otherwise, compared to 14.5% at baseline.
Expanded Presence Beyond Hidradenitis Suppurativa
This work is part of a broader presence of UCB at the EADV 2026 Congress, with a total of 23 abstracts presented across its portfolio. The portfolio includes one abstract on gilvokimig in atopic dermatitis, 21 abstracts on bimekizumab (hidradenitis suppurativa, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and axial spondyloarthritis) and one abstract on unmet needs of patients with hidradenitis suppurativa.
UCB, described as a global biopharmaceutical group, presents this data as a reflection of its commitment to earlier intervention in this chronic disease. According to Donatello Crocetta, Chief Medical Officer of UCB, these three-year results in hidradenitis suppurativa demonstrate the group's commitment to advancing dermatology through data generation.
The company clarifies that the data presented are derived from post-hoc analyses of the Be Heard trials and should be interpreted with caution, as these analyses were not prespecified in the initial protocols.
