Voltalia Secures 322 MW in Brazil to Power Data Centers
On Monday, Voltalia secured a connection agreement to the Brazilian electrical grid at the Pecém industrial complex in Ceará, providing it with 322 megawatts of capacity. This step marks the group's entry into the high-energy-consuming digital infrastructure sector.
A Strategic Position in the Data Center Sector
Voltalia strengthens its position as a partner for rapidly growing digital infrastructure projects, particularly data centers. The agreement signed with the Brazilian National Electric System Operator (ONS) secures a connection capacity of 322 MW at the Pecém complex, located in a major industrial and logistics hub in Ceará.
The group is currently in advanced discussions with several data center operators and plans to develop dedicated renewable energy projects, primarily using wind power, to meet the increasing demand for reliable and decarbonized electricity. Pecém offers a unique combination of available land, robust infrastructure, and network access.
The Advantages of the Pecém Complex
The complex benefits from high-quality renewable energy resources, a secured network connection, and a developed industrial environment conducive to large-scale projects. Robert Klein, CEO of Voltalia, emphasizes that this agreement enhances the group's ability to capitalize on emerging opportunities linked to the rapid growth of the digital economy, particularly in the data center sector.
Voltalia currently operates 3.6 GW of capacity in operation and under construction, with a development portfolio representing an additional 12 GW.
