Air Liquide invests over 170 million euros in chip production in Japan
The French industrial group strengthens its foothold in Asian electronics by signing a long-term agreement with a chip manufacturer in Japan.
A long-term agreement to supply a logic chip production facility
Air Liquide announced on September 30, 2026 an investment of over 170 million euros aimed at supplying ultra-pure gases to a semiconductor manufacturer in Japan. Under a long-term agreement, the group states that it will support the expansion of an existing logic chip production facility operated by its customer. The group specifies that these gases are essential to ensure the ultra-clean and stable environments required for advanced chip manufacturing, a field linked to the development of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing markets.
Dedicated production units in the southern Japan semiconductor hub
Air Liquide indicates that it will build, own and operate several production units to deliver significant volumes of ultra-pure nitrogen, oxygen, argon and hydrogen, with backup storage capacity. The project is located at the heart of the semiconductor hub in southern Japan, an area that the group presents as a key sector for industrial investments. According to Ronnie Chalmers, vice president of the group responsible for operations in the Asia-Pacific region, this investment reflects customers' confidence in the company's industrial solutions. Present in Japan since 1907, Air Liquide operates in the country with a workforce of approximately 2,000 employees.
