AkzoNobel and Axalta Unveil Axanzo, the Name of Their Future Listed Group Trading Under Ticker AXZ
The combined entity resulting from the planned merger between Dutch AkzoNobel and American Axalta Coating Systems would be listed under the symbol AXZ on the New York Stock Exchange and Amsterdam stock exchange. The completion of the transaction, announced in November 2025, remains subject to obtaining all regulatory approvals and is expected in early 2027.
A Name and Stock Symbol Finalized Before Completion
AkzoNobel and Axalta Coating Systems announced on October 15, 2026 that the combined company will be named Axanzo once the merger is completed. The envisaged symbol following completion, on both NYSE and Euronext Amsterdam, is AXZ.
According to the press release, this name reflects the heritage of both companies. The combined entity would bring together a portfolio of approximately 100 brands in paints and coatings, present in more than 160 countries.
Greg Poux-Guillaume to Lead the Group, Chris Villavarayan as Deputy
Greg Poux-Guillaume, Chief Executive Officer of AkzoNobel, will hold the same position within the new organization. Chris Villavarayan, Chief Executive Officer of Axalta, will become its Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
Greg Poux-Guillaume stated that Axanzo's priority would be to strengthen its competitiveness while establishing a "profitable and sustainable" trajectory. Chris Villavarayan stated that the new name reflects the shared ambition of both groups.
Both Companies to Remain Independent Until Closing Expected in Early 2027
AkzoNobel and Axalta will continue to operate as independent companies until completion. This is expected in early 2027, once all regulatory approvals have been obtained and customary closing conditions have been satisfied. The name change does not modify, at this stage, relationships with customers and partners, who will continue to be served by existing teams and brands.
From a regulatory perspective, AkzoNobel filed Form F-4 with the SEC on May 27, 2026, amended on June 18, 2026 and declared effective on June 23, 2026. The prospectus relating to shares to be issued by AkzoNobel in connection with the transaction was published on June 24, 2026, the date on which Axalta also filed its definitive proxy solicitation statement.
