Alstom: its consortium selected for Gautrain, €800M scope

Consortium selected for the next Gautrain concession
Alstom announced on September 30, 2026 that the Gauteng provincial government and the Gautrain Management Agency have designated the Sihamba Sonke Mobility (SSM) consortium as the preferred bidder for the next concession contract of Gautrain, the express rail network in Gauteng province, South Africa.
The group is a shareholder and industrial partner of the SSM concession. It has supported Gautrain since its inception as a maintenance partner of the current concession.

Alstom's scope of intervention represents a cumulative contract value of €800 million over the duration of the concession, set at fifteen years. According to the press release, this order will be recorded during the second quarter of Alstom's 2026-27 fiscal year.
This scope encompasses engineering, procurement and construction activities for the network modernization and renovation program, as well as long-term rail maintenance services.
Eight trains manufactured at Alstom's South African Ubunye facility
The program includes the delivery of eight new trains manufactured locally in Gauteng province, a new signaling system, modernization of communication networks and renovation of the existing fleet. The new trains will be manufactured at Alstom's Ubunye facility.
This announcement is part of a series of recent commercial developments for the group, following a €460M contract for Riyadh metro and an order for 35 additional trains in Sweden, announced on September 29, 2026.
