BAM concludes agreement to divest Schakel & Schrale to Arundo Beheer
The Dutch construction group announced on October 20, 2026 that it has found a buyer for its historic building restoration activity. This activity is expected to achieve revenue of approximately €18 million in 2026. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.
A heritage restoration subsidiary integrated into BAM since 1978
Royal BAM Group has concluded an agreement to divest Schakel & Schrale to Arundo Beheer B.V. Schakel & Schrale operated as an independent company within the group's Netherlands division. Founded in 1893 and integrated into BAM since 1978, it operates in the restoration, renovation and conversion of historic and listed buildings across the Dutch territory.
The company employs approximately 40 people. Its revenue is expected to reach approximately €18 million in 2026. For reference, BAM achieved revenue of €7.0 billion in 2025, with approximately 13,500 employees.
A refocusing on housing and non-residential sectors in the Netherlands
According to the group, the transaction is part of its strategic priority for real estate construction and development in the Netherlands. This priority focuses on the delivery of housing and new assets using scalable and larger-scale models, sustainable construction of non-residential buildings, as well as renovation and renewal activities. BAM is convinced that the heritage restoration activity will be better positioned within a group dedicated to this market.
Arundo Beheer B.V. brings together companies focused, among other things, on the restoration and preservation of built heritage. The press release indicates that the combination should ensure continuity for clients and employees.
"We believe we have found the right owner for Schakel & Schrale," stated Ruud Joosten, Chief Executive Officer of Royal BAM Group. Frans van der Kleij, Chief Executive Officer of Arundo Beheer B.V., indicated for his part that he has known the company "for many years".
A divestment conducted in parallel with acquisitions in networks
This divestment comes as BAM recently announced two transactions in Dutch energy and water infrastructure. On October 8, 2026, the group concluded an agreement to acquire A.Hak, a specialist in underground networks, on the basis of an enterprise value of €504 million. The closing of this transaction is also expected in the first quarter of 2027.
BAM has also announced an agreement for the acquisition of a 40% stake in Van Leeuwen Sleufloze Technieken (VLST), a Dutch specialist in horizontal directional drilling. These transactions are part of the group's 2024-2026 strategy, entitled "Building a sustainable tomorrow", built around three pillars: "Focus", "Transform" and "Expand".
