Colas Completes Its First Road Acquisition in Germany with Frauenrath
On May 29, 2026, Colas finalized the acquisition of road construction and recycling activities from the Frauenrath group in Germany, marking the group's first road acquisition in the country. This transaction allows the Bouygues subsidiary to strengthen its presence in the heart of Europe.
Acquisition Finalized After Approval from Competition Authorities
Colas successfully completed the acquisition of road construction and recycling activities from the Frauenrath group, a German family-owned company established since the late 19th century. The deal was finalized on May 29, 2026, a few weeks after the signing of the memorandum of understanding on March 19, 2026, and following approval from competition authorities. This transaction marks Colas's first road acquisition in Germany. The acquired activities include road construction, urban development, and circular economy, and are based in two locations: Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia and Großröhrsdorf in Saxony, employing around 420 staff members.
A Portfolio Generating 150 Million Euros in Revenue
The construction and recycling activities of the Frauenrath group generated a revenue of approximately 150 million euros in 2025. This acquisition is a continuation of Colas's expansion strategy in Germany, following the acquisition by Colas Rail in the summer of 2022 of the Hasselmann group, which specializes in the construction of railway tracks and infrastructure in Thuringia. Colas, a subsidiary of Bouygues, reported a consolidated revenue of 16 billion euros in 2025 and employs 62,000 staff across about fifty countries. These two acquisitions strengthen the group's footprint in the heart of Europe and the third-largest global economic power.
