CTT takes top spot in IPC sustainability rankings for the first time with 93%
The Portuguese postal group achieved an overall score of 93.0% in the Sustainability Measurement & Management System (SMMS), the sustainability assessment program for the postal sector conducted by the International Post Corporation (IPC), according to a press release published on October 12, 2026. This is the first time CTT has topped this panel of 27 postal operators, whose average stands at 81.7%, and its score exceeds the 90% target set by the IPC for the sector by 2030.
Over 90% in six of the seven evaluated areas
The SMMS evaluates postal operators across seven areas: climate change, air quality, circular economy, sustainable procurement, resource efficiency, health and safety, and learning and development. The methodology combines a qualitative assessment of the maturity of sustainability management systems and the analysis of quantitative performance indicators. Results are subject to independent validation and audit.
CTT achieved scores exceeding 90% in six of these seven areas. The highest scores concern health and safety (97.0%), climate change (95.1%) and learning and development (94.6%).
Renewable electricity and direct emissions reduced by more than 75%
Among the indicators that contributed to this ranking, the group cites the use of 100% renewable electricity in its buildings, the increasing decarbonization of its fleet and a reduction exceeding 75% in direct greenhouse gas emissions from scopes 1 and 2 compared to 2008. The company also highlights the continuous improvement in carbon efficiency of its operations and the integration of recycled and reused materials in 90% of its mail, express and parcel offerings.
According to the press release, the IPC highlighted the high maturity of CTT's ESG management practices. For Maria Rebelo, the group's sustainability director, this first place "demonstrates CTT's ability to transform its sustainability commitments into concrete and measurable results" and "reflects the integration of sustainability into strategy and operations".
The group indicates its intention to continue leading the sustainable transformation of the postal sector, aiming for operations that are "increasingly efficient, resilient and prepared for future challenges".
