ENGIE Surpasses 10 GW Storage Capacity Milestone Globally
ENGIE announced that it has exceeded 10 GW of electricity storage capacity worldwide. The group details the progress of its European battery portfolio during July and August 2026.
This announcement aligns with the group's objective to reach 95 GW of installed renewable and storage capacity by 2030.
Global Portfolio Increased to 10.7 GW
According to the statement, ENGIE's global storage portfolio now reaches 10.7 GW in operation and under construction. It combines battery energy storage systems (BESS) and pumped-storage hydroelectricity stations (PSHS).
The group indicates positions in Europe (4.7 GW) and the United States (4.4 GW). During July and August 2026, ENGIE added 1.1 GW / 3.3 GWh capacity across seven countries.
The group presents this deployment as a lever for balancing electrical grids, allowing electricity to be stored during periods of abundant production and returned during consumption peaks.
Entry into Poland and Advances in Several European Countries
ENGIE indicates it has entered the storage market in Poland, with a portfolio of 758 MW and 2,156 MWh, notably through the acquisition of the Tursko Wielkie project (250 MW / 1,000 MWh) supplemented by an adjacent project of 70 MW / 280 MWh, forming a single installation of 320 MW / 1,280 MWh, as well as a project of 438 MW / 876 MWh in the Łódź region, scheduled for commissioning between 2028 and 2029.
In Romania, the group acquired a 54 MW / 216 MWh project at Călan, with commissioning planned for 2029. In Spain, it acquired a 66 MW / 264 MWh asset at Tarifa, scheduled for 2029.
The group has furthermore begun construction of a 74 MW / 296 MWh system at Coo, in Belgium, commissioned its first two BESS systems in Scotland (100 MW / 200 MWh) and inaugurated on June 30 the Maxima BESS site at Lelystad, in the Netherlands (35 MW / 100 MWh).
