Haffner Energy launches biomass-based energy offering for data centers
Haffner Energy has launched an energy offering designed for data centers, presented as a new development avenue for the biomass-based solutions designer.
The Company indicates that this offering is already available and has been the subject of initial commercial proposals.
A modular offering based on CORE100 and the C-iB module
The offering relies on the modular architecture developed as part of CORE100 and its C-iB variant, adapted to multi-modular installations of high power. It aims to address three challenges identified by the Company for data centers: rapid access to high electrical power without exacerbating grid tensions, decarbonization of energy supply, and management of water requirements.
Haffner Energy indicates that it produces renewable and controllable electricity near the data center from local residual biomasses, with the solution capable of operating as a complement to the grid. Installations are designed to achieve several tens of megawatts and beyond, depending on customer needs.
According to Philippe Haffner, Chief Executive Officer, a project mobilizes more than ten modules, with each module integrated in a data center offering representing approximately 6 million euros in revenue, or nearly three times that of a module intended solely for syngas production.
Availability exceeding 99.995% and participation in the ÆTHER consortium
In a configuration of ten modules, two of which are redundant, the architecture is complemented by occasional natural gas backup. This combination is designed to guarantee energy availability exceeding 99.995%, corresponding to the level required for Tier IV infrastructures, with natural gas expected to represent less than 0.1% of primary energy.
The solution recovers the heat generated via a combined cycle, making it possible to achieve electrical efficiency of around 55% of the energy contained in the syngas, and to supply refrigeration units producing cold for the data center.
Haffner Energy is moreover a founding member of the European ÆTHER consortium, alongside notably 2CRSi, ÉS group, Socomec and Projex. This consortium is a candidate for the "AI Gigafactory" call for proposals launched by the European Commission and is working on the development of its first campuses in the Strasbourg region.
