In one year, Viridien share gains 25% and recovers 2.5% against short selling
The geosciences specialist rebounds mid-morning, in a rising Paris market. The movement erases part of the month's decline, while short selling on the security remains at elevated levels.
A rebound that leaves the security below its short and medium-term moving averages
The Viridien share gains 2.3% to €88.85, compared to €86.85 the previous day. It thus advances 3.68% over a week but remains down 5.48% over a month. This uptick in activity places the security among the strongest gains of the SBF 120, which rises 0.94% at the same time.
The share nevertheless remains below its 20-day moving average at €90.55 (gap of 1.88%) and its 50-day moving average at €90.30 (gap of 1.61%). These two close thresholds, which the price is attempting to regain, mark a key resistance level; breaking through them would diminish the monthly decline but would not erase its essence. The 200-day moving average, at €107.83, is more than 17% above the current price.
Cumulative short positions climb to 9.65% of capital in one month
According to filed disclosures, nine funds cumulate 9.65% of capital in net short position, compared to 6.55% thirty days ago, an increase of 3.10 percentage points. Such a level shows that a significant portion of institutional investors remains positioned against the security, or is hedging an exposure elsewhere in its portfolio. This positioning may also amplify buyback movements during rebound sessions. It reveals nothing about these funds' motivations.
On the oil front, Brent trades at $102.51 per barrel and declines 1.70% during the session. It remains up 5.8% since September 29. On the agreement side, Viridien announced on October 7 a multi-client collaboration framework with the Moroccan agency responsible for hydrocarbons and mining, covering onshore and offshore basins. The support at €82.60 and resistance at €97.80 now frame the price.
