Mota-Engil secures 30-year highway concession in Brazil, with €700M in planned investments
Portuguese group Mota-Engil announced the signing of a highway concession contract in Brazil, through its subsidiary Mota-Engil Brasil involved within a consortium. The agreement, with a duration of thirty years, covers a road corridor connecting the States of Bahia and Pernambuco.
A 30-year concession covering 502 km in northeastern Brazil
Mota-Engil indicated that its subsidiary Mota-Engil Brasil, member of Consórcio 116 Sertões led by Nova Infra Investimentos, signed the concession contract for Rota dos Sertões in Brazil. The contract covers the development, operation, maintenance, preservation, modernization and capacity extension of the corridor.
With a duration of thirty years, the concession covers approximately 502 km of highways BR-116/BA, BR-116/PE and BR-324/BA, ensuring the road link between the bypass of Feira de Santana in the State of Bahia and Salgueiro in the State of Pernambuco. Mota-Engil announced the signing of the contract in a press release dated October 1st, 2026.
Mota-Engil holds 33% of the consortium, estimated investment of 4.1 billion reais
Mota-Engil holds a 33% stake in the consortium, alongside Nova Infra Investimentos (34%) and Galápagos Participações (33%). The agreement provides for a total estimated investment of approximately 4.1 billion Brazilian reais (approximately 700 million euros).
The planned works include the doubling of approximately 108 km of roads, the construction of approximately 5 km of additional lanes and 45 km of service roads, as well as pavement rehabilitation operations, road safety improvements, modernization of operating systems and increased capacity of the corridor.
A new milestone in Latin America
With this award, Mota-Engil strengthens its presence in the Brazilian highway concession market and expands its order book in Latin America. This signing comes less than a month after the announcement on September 7th, 2026 of a 207 million dollar contract in Mozambique, carried out by its subsidiary Mota-Engil Africa within a consortium for preparatory works of the Area 4 project of Mozambique Rovuma Ventures.
