Nexans Completes Acquisition of American Company Republic Wire, Strengthening Its Position in the US
Nexans finalized on Monday the 100% acquisition of Republic Wire, an American low-voltage cable manufacturer based in Cincinnati. This move significantly strengthens the group's presence in the American low-voltage cable market and creates an extensive industrial and commercial platform in North America.
An Established Player in the American Market
Republic Wire is an American manufacturer of low-voltage copper and aluminum wires founded in 1982, based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company employs over 200 people and operates from a single manufacturing and distribution site. It supplies electrical distributors, utility services, and local governments in the United States and Canada. Its product portfolio includes bare copper wires, insulated building wires, and weather-resistant polyethylene wires, serving residential, commercial, and industrial markets. It relies on a national network of 18 commercial agencies.
Strengthening the North American Position
Nexans will incorporate Republic Wire into its PWR-Connect division starting June 1st. The group justifies this operation by strengthening its position in the American low-voltage segment and gaining access to long-term structural trends: infrastructure modernization, growing energy demand, and expansion of applications related to data centers. This adds to the group's previous operations in North America, notably the recent acquisition of Electro Cables in Canada.
Combining Industrial Expertise
Nexans intends to combine Republic Wire's established manufacturing capabilities, its national distribution network, and its customer base with its global expertise and innovation platform. The group states it is now positioned to accelerate its growth in the North American electrification value chain. PJT Partners served as the exclusive financial advisor to Nexans, with White & Case LLP acting as legal counsel. Deloitte Corporate Finance LLC and Taft respectively assisted Republic Wire as financial and legal advisors.
