Renault share rebounds by more than 4% and tops the CAC 40
After two consecutive difficult sessions, Renault's share experiences a marked rebound this Thursday at the CAC 40 closing. The stock clearly moves back above its short and medium-term moving averages, in a practically stable Paris market, which makes the move all the more visible.
A rebound of 4.19% that brings the stock back to its resistance at 29.72 €
Renault closes at 28.85 €, up 4.19% compared to the previous day (27.69 €), thus ranking among the strongest gains of the CAC 40 at market close. The rebound brings the stock above its MA20 at 28.49 € (difference of +1.26%) and well above its MA50 at 27.28 € (difference of +5.76%). Over the week, the gain reaches nearly 6%, and over one month, the stock gains 5.83%, a sign that short-term momentum has reversed after recent selling pressure.
The next obstacle remains resistance at 29.72 €, less than one euro from the current price. The MA200 at 30.21 € constitutes a higher ceiling: the stock remains below this long-term reference, with a difference of -4.50%. The RSI at 47 is trading in neutral territory, without overbought signals, which theoretically leaves room before the stock hits a bullish exhaustion pattern.
Short positions still elevated and analyst views favorable despite commercial headwinds
On structural downward pressure, six funds cumulate 6.25% of capital sold short according to consulted filings, down 0.63 percentage points compared to thirty days ago (6.88%). This level remains significant: it reflects a non-negligible fraction of institutional investors positioned bearishly, even though recent trends show a slight disengagement. It is worth noting that this gradual decline in short positions may have mechanically contributed to today's rebound, though establishing precise causality is not possible. On the analyst consensus front, CIC Market Solutions maintained its buy opinion on September 1st with a price target of 40.00 €, representing upside potential of nearly 39% compared to the current price.
Valuation remains modest: according to the consensus of tracked analysts, the stock trades at approximately 4.4 times current fiscal year earnings. This favorable valuation context contrasts with August commercial data, which revealed the group's underperformance on the French market despite a market up 3.6%. Over one year, the stock still shows a decline of 13.21%, a reminder that this week's rebound erases only part of the losses.
