SES extends satellite connectivity contract with Peruvian Navy
Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES announced on September 3, 2026 the expansion of its collaboration with the Marina de Guerra del Perú. The agreement covers satellite connectivity combining geostationary orbit and low earth orbit for coastal bases, aircraft and ships of the Peruvian Navy.
A solution combining GEO and LEO for the Peruvian Navy
SES has expanded its collaboration with the Marina de Guerra del Perú to provide sovereign multi-orbit satellite connectivity, combining geostationary orbit (GEO) and low earth orbit (LEO) services.
This solution is designed to support coastal bases, aircraft and ships of the Navy operating in Peru's maritime domain. The agreement was made public on September 3, 2026.
Deployment aboard the training ship B.A.P. "UNIÓN"
SES's managed multi-orbit solution will be available aboard the B.A.P. "UNIÓN", a Peruvian training ship presented as a symbol of national diplomacy abroad.
According to SES, this connectivity should enable real-time communications during international deployments or circumnavigations. The agreement is linked to the ship's VIEX-2026 foreign training voyage.
Strengthening sovereignty over communications
Through this collaboration, the Peruvian Navy obtains increased control over its communications infrastructure, including secure encryption and operational management capabilities.
Ricardo La Guardia, SES Vice President Americas - Fixed Data, described this agreement as a "strategic milestone" for SES in the defense sector of the region. This announcement comes after SES's investment in Elveo Mobile, announced on August 17, 2026, in the field of direct satellite connectivity to mobile phones.
