Société Générale's Stock Bounces Back Nearly 3% and Regains Leading Position in CAC 40
The bank from La Défense brightens up mid-session, following a significant drop the previous day that had relegated it to the bottom of the CAC 40. The stock benefits from the support of two brokerage houses that have just raised their price targets, in a stagnant Parisian market.
Morgan Stanley and Kepler Cheuvreux Raise Their Target on the Stock
Société Générale climbs 2.79% to €73.29 and positions itself among the leaders of the CAC 40, with the index itself up by 0.14%. The stock recovers part of the 5.5% dive it took the previous day, though it does not completely make up for the weekly decline which remains at 4.63%. Two analyst opinions fuel the rebound. Morgan Stanley today increased its target from €83 to €86, maintaining its overweight stance, representing a potential close to 17% on the current price. On July 7, Kepler Cheuvreux raised its target from €70.70 to €85 while upgrading its rating from hold to buy. Based on the consensus of the analysts surveyed, the stock is trading at about 9.5 times the earnings expected for the current fiscal year.
The Stock Reaches Back to Its 20-Day Moving Average at €73
After the previous day's downturn, the price precisely returns to its 20-day moving average (MM20) at €73, with virtually no gap. The stock remains significantly above its 50-day moving average (MM50) at €70.91, with a margin of 3.36%, and maintains a cushion of more than 12% over its 200-day moving average (MM200) at €65.39. The RSI at 64 remains in the neutral zone, and the MACD at 2.24 keeps a positive histogram despite Wednesday's shakeup. The underlying trend remains strong, with a gain of nearly 47% over one year and 5% over one month. The next resistance to watch is at €78.92, a threshold previously identified in past sessions. In the background, the resumption of strikes between Washington and Tehran continues to fuel volatility, with the VIX up nearly 5% at 16.93.
