Thales stock drops nearly 8% over one month and threatens its support level
The defense electronics and aerospace group's share price is declining sharply this Thursday morning, in a Paris market also oriented downward. This decline occurs as Thales finds itself below all of its key moving averages, in a degraded technical configuration for several weeks.
Thales among the steepest CAC 40 declines, under pressure over three weeks
Thales fell 2.35% to €233.10 in trading, ranking among the steepest CAC 40 declines while the Paris index retreated 0.89%. Pressure has accumulated over one month: the share has surrendered 7.9% over the past thirty days, erasing most of the rebound recorded in mid-September. This rebound, documented around September 14-15, had then brought the share back toward €240 from the support zone of €225, but the movement did not hold.
Over the week, the decline reaches 3.24%, in a context where the VIX advances nearly 15% intraday, signaling broader nervousness in the markets. The CAC 40 is declining, as are the DAX and SBF 120 (−0.88%), which accentuates pressure on values most exposed to defensive rotations.
Below its three moving averages, the share approaches the €225.10 support level
The price of €233.10 is below the three reference moving averages: the 20-day MA at €236.68 (gap of −1.51%), the 200-day MA at €243.17 (−4.14%) and the 50-day MA at €244.63 (−4.71%). This configuration, where the share trades below all of these thresholds, reflects a bearish dynamic in the short and medium term. The RSI at 50 remains neutral, showing no signal of seller exhaustion nor marked oversold conditions, which leaves technical room for downside before reaching an alert threshold.
The support identified at €225.10 represents the next significant level: this threshold had already been threatened in early September, before the share rebounded. The gap between the current price and this support is approximately 3.4%, a margin that is narrowing with each trading session. Resistance, meanwhile, sits significantly higher at €271.90, representing a gap of more than 16% above the current price.
