Thales to Supply Five Air Surveillance Radars to Ireland via the DGA
Thales has been selected to supply five air surveillance radars to Ireland under a contract signed between the Irish Ministry of Defence and the French Direction générale de l'Armement (DGA). The operation is conducted through the French Direction générale de l'Armement (DGA) as part of a European cooperation framework.
Four GM400 Alpha and One GM200 Multi Mission
The Irish Ministry of Defence and the Direction générale de l'Armement (DGA) have signed a contract for the acquisition of four Ground Master 400 Alpha radars (GM400α) and one Ground Master 200 Multi Mission radar (GM200 MM/A).
According to the press release, the agreement aims to strengthen Ireland's air surveillance capabilities and contribute to maintaining the sovereignty of its airspace. The customer is a defence ministry, an institutional public buyer, with the procurement being led by the DGA as part of a European cooperation initiative.
First Deliveries Expected in 2027
First deliveries are scheduled for 2027. Thales attributes this timeline to its industrial capacity building programme and its ability to meet production schedules within short timeframes.
The contract value and total duration are not disclosed in the press release.
Two Deployable Radar Systems
The GM400α offers a 6-second update rate and is designed to be integrated into a 20-foot ISO container with an integrated lifting system. The GM200 MM/A is based on an all-in-one architecture combining the radar, a mast and a power generator within a single 20-foot shelter, transportable by truck and operational in 15 minutes.
Thales' Ground Master radar family has sold over 300 units in more than 40 countries, according to the group. In 2025, Thales achieved revenue of €22.1 billion.
