Ubisoft stock among the strongest gainers in the SBF 120, short interest declines
After two consecutive declines that had erased part of the spectacular September rebound, Ubisoft regains ground on Tuesday and reclaims a top position in the broader index ranking. The recovery occurs in an SBF 120 itself showing modest gains, in a context of globally stable markets across Europe.
A rebound that brings the stock back to its 50-day moving average and above its other averages
Ubisoft stock gains 1.76% during the session, at €5.33, after closing at €5.23 the previous day. The stock is now approaching its 50-day moving average at €5.31, with a gap of only 0.30% — a threshold it had lost sight of for several weeks before the September rally. It remains above its 20-day MA (€5.21, gap of +2.23%) and its 200-day MA (€5.05, gap of +5.47%), which reflects a technical configuration broadly restored compared to August lows.
The RSI at 48 remains neutral, with no overbought or exhaustion signals. The next identified resistance stands at €5.67, approximately 6.5% above the current price, while support at €4.86 is moving away at the lower end of the range. Monthly volatility remains elevated at 20.72, reflecting the sharp swings experienced by the stock since the start of the year.
Short positions still very high despite notable decline over one month
The stock's momentum remains hampered by structurally strong downward pressure. According to recorded declarations, ten funds maintain net short positions totaling 11.76% of capital — a level that places Ubisoft among the most shorted stocks on the French exchange. This figure has nevertheless declined by 2.10 percentage points over thirty days (it stood at 13.86% a month ago), suggesting that some managers have reduced their short exposure without fully liquidating it.
A short of this magnitude means that a significant portion of the float remains positioned downward: any sustained rebound will therefore need to rely on a continuation of this decline. Over one year, the stock is still down -45.32%, which puts the September rebound into perspective. The 2026 general meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30.
