Viridien signs multi-client agreement with ONHYM to map Moroccan subsurface
The geosciences specialist announced on October 7, 2026, from Paris, the conclusion of a collaboration agreement with Morocco's national agency responsible for hydrocarbons and mines. The agreement establishes a common framework for the provision of subsurface data covering both the Kingdom's onshore and offshore sedimentary basins.
A collaboration agreement with Morocco's national agency
Viridien has concluded a multi-client collaboration agreement with the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), Morocco's national agency responsible for developing hydrocarbon and mineral resources.
On the Moroccan side, the agreement is led by ONHYM, headed by Amina Benkhadra, its Chief Executive Officer. On the Viridien side, it falls under the Earth Data business line, whose head is Dechun Lin.
Several officials from both organizations appeared in the photograph distributed with the announcement. For ONHYM: Asmae Benarchid, Director of Oil Exploration, and Khalid Amrouch, Director of Asset Management and Investment Promotion. For Viridien: Julio Perea, Vice President responsible for Earth Data's global business development.
Subsurface data covering onshore and offshore basins
The agreement defines a joint framework in which Viridien, in collaboration with ONHYM, will provide integrated multi-client data solutions and subsurface analysis. The scope covers Morocco's sedimentary basins, both offshore and onshore, which the press release describes as extensive and underexplored.
According to the press release, the two partners intend to establish new standards in subsurface assessment, technical rigor, and knowledge exchange. The stated objective is to strengthen Morocco's position as a destination for hydrocarbon investment in North Africa.
Viridien frames the agreement as part of strengthening its presence in Africa
For Dechun Lin, this collaboration is "a decisive step for Viridien as we strengthen our presence in Africa". The executive also refers to a "sustainable" relationship, based on partnership with ONHYM, combining the group's imaging and data science capabilities with the agency's regional expertise.
Amina Benkhadra, for her part, presents the agreement as a reflection of ONHYM's commitment to promoting innovation and international partnerships. According to her, it should make it possible to "improve subsurface understanding, attract investments and accelerate exploration opportunities" in Morocco.
Viridien, listed on Euronext Paris under the symbol VIRI, employs approximately 3,200 people worldwide.
