Viridien stock climbs 3.5% and ranks among the strongest gainers on the SBF 120
The geosciences specialist accelerates at midday, in a declining Paris market. This rebound is accompanied by a persistently tense oil backdrop and elevated short-selling levels on the stock.
A rebound that places the price above its short-term moving averages
Viridien gains 3.65% to €90.90, while the CAC 40 falls 0.79% and the SBF 120 declines 0.73%. The stock ranks among the strongest gainers in the latter index, behind Sodexo and L'Oréal. It stands 3.23% above its MA20 (€88.06) and 1.39% above its MA50 (€89.65), following a 6.07% increase over seven days.
The MA200 remains far above, at €106.98, or 15.03% above the current price. The move extends the 2.5% increase already observed Wednesday, which had brought the stock back above its MA20.
The RSI at 52 is neutral and the MACD remains negative (-0.36), but its histogram turns positive again (0.31), a sign that selling momentum is easing.
Oil at $114 and short-sellers at 10.5% of capital
Brent crude is trading at $114.36 per barrel at 12:02 p.m., up 1.05% on the session and 9.1% since October 13. Viridien operates in an environment of very elevated prices, against the backdrop of fresh attacks on Saudi infrastructure and tankers that have tightened supply this week.
One point warrants attention: according to filed disclosures, nine funds cumulate a net short position of 10.53% of capital, compared to 8.39% a month ago (+2.14 percentage points). This level is elevated for the stock and the decline over thirty days shows that the bearish bet has strengthened rather than eased. It reflects primarily institutional investors positioned against the stock or hedging an exposure, without their motivations being known. On the technical side, support is found at €84.55, resistance at €97.80.
