Weaccess Group Bets on Push to Talk Services for Growth
The broadband Internet service provider announces the deployment of its PTT platform 'Wetalk', launched at the end of 2025, with several hundred terminals connected on 4G and 5G networks. The company has notably equipped the Grand Port Maritime of Reunion with a PTT security network.
Deployment and Commercialization of Wetalk
According to the press release, Weaccess Group began commercializing its PTT platform Wetalk at the end of summer 2025. The deployment is underway with several hundred walkie-talkie type terminals connected on both Weaccess private networks and public French networks. The group reports that the Grand Port Maritime of Reunion will be equipped with a PTT security network connected to the private 4G/5G network built by the company. The Reunion port handling consortium TGC, which includes SOMACOM, SAMR, and SGM, will benefit from this installation. The company specifies that the service price, excluding SIM card, is under 10 euros per month per terminal, with a margin higher than that of fiber optic or radio access. SIM packages are approximately 4 euros per month per terminal or free with a private 4G/5G network.
Transition to Standardized 4G and 5G Networks
According to the press release, PTT security networks are gradually transitioning from a proprietary digital mode to standardized 4G and 5G networks. This evolution allows for walkie-talkie type connections over distances of several hundred kilometers. The group indicates that this operating mode uses only data mode, similar to mobile apps, without needing to dial through national telephony operators. It is possible, according to the company, to work in groups of users who are remotely located anywhere on the planet covered by a 4G or 5G network. Weaccess Group believes that the gradual migration of its PTT terminal park of several hundred thousand units to 4G and 5G networks represents a growth opportunity for its Wetalk platform. The data consumption cost is presented as very low due to the use of the latest generation voice codecs.
Development of Wetalk Platform Enhancements
The group is developing enhancements to the Wetalk platform with video stream processing and the integration of drone and rover type terminals, the press release states. The supervision console will allow for the return of pedestrian camera streams, as well as viewing images from drones or rovers equipped with special sensors. These developments are part of the continuation of the COHOMA III challenge by the Army and in anticipation of the COHOMA IV challenge in two years. Within the framework of the Norman project DRINEA coordinated by NAE, the artificial intelligence processing of images transmitted by the Wetalk platform will enable target recognition. Additionally, according to the press release, Weaccess Group is working on integrating a sovereign tactical bubble easily deployable on the European PPDR band at 700 MHz. This 4G/5G bubble will integrate the transmitter, antenna, 5G network core, and the Wetalk service to manage local PTT terminals without the need for high-speed backhaul.
