Air France-KLM Acquires Stake in WestJet
Air France-KLM has completed the purchase of a 2.3% stake in Canadian airline WestJet, according to the group.
Details of the Acquisition
According to Air France-KLM, the group has finalized the acquisition of a 2.3% stake in WestJet. This transaction, initially announced on May 9, 2025, was carried out in partnership with Delta Air Lines, which acquired a 15% minority stake in WestJet, with 12.7% of this share attributed to it. Additionally, Korean Air also acquired 10% of WestJet's shares.
Long-standing Partnership
Air France-KLM has been engaged with WestJet since 2009 through interline marketing agreements. This partnership has evolved to include code-sharing agreements and shared benefits for members of their loyalty programs.
Combined Stakes
The combined stakes of Delta Air Lines, Korean Air, and Air France-KLM now represent 25% of WestJet's capital. These shares were sold by Onex Partners, a Canadian investor and controlling shareholder of WestJet. These strategic acquisitions are part of a logic of enhanced cooperation among these airlines.
