Alpine Recruits Alex Dunne, Former McLaren Protege, to Its Academy for 2026
The BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces the incorporation of Alex Dunne into its Alpine Academy. The twenty-year-old Irish driver will compete in the 2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship season with Rodin Motorsport.
A New Chapter Begins for Dunne
Alex Dunne, hailing from Clonbullogue, Ireland, joins the Alpine Academy, the team's program dedicated to guiding young talents to the highest level of professional motorsport. The twenty-year-old driver will sport the Alpine livery on his single-seater, entered by Rodin Motorsport in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. The 2026 season will kick off next month, coinciding with the curtain-raiser of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Rising Through the Ranks
Alex Dunne began his career in karting before clinching the WSK Champions Cup in the OK-J category in 2019. Moving to single-seaters, he became the British Formula 4 Champion in 2022 and finished as the runner-up in the Italian Formula 4 Championship that same year. In 2023, he was the runner-up in the GB3 Championship. He made his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2024 and continued his rise in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, where he finished fifth in 2025 with two wins, two pole positions, and eight podiums. During the 2025 season, he also participated in two Free Practice 1 sessions in Formula 1 with McLaren.
