Alstom Secures an 800 Million Euro Rail Contract in Toronto
Alstom has renewed its contract with Metrolinx, the public transportation agency of Ontario, for the operation and maintenance of two Toronto rail networks. This renewal extends for an additional five years, until 2031.
Continued Service Commitment
Alstom will continue to provide operation and maintenance services for GO Transit, the regional network of the Greater Golden Horseshoe, and for the Union Pearson Express (UPX), the rail link connecting Pearson International Airport to downtown Toronto. The renewed contract will be effective until 2031. During the fiscal years 2024-2025, Alstom's teams managed 117,020 GO Rail services and 56,494 UP Express services, achieving a punctuality rate of over 97% on the shared network.
Economic Impact and Job Preservation
The renewed contract is valued at approximately 800 million euros, or 1.3 billion Canadian dollars. This extension will maintain close to 1,300 direct jobs in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area, including operations teams, drivers, train conductors, customer service agents, and maintenance staff.
Strengthening Market Leadership
The renewal of this longstanding partnership reinforces Alstom's position as the leading private provider of rail operation and maintenance services in North America. The group currently holds more than 25 active operation and maintenance contracts worldwide and boasts a 95% renewal rate for its operation and maintenance contracts.
