ArcelorMittal: two deaths in new strike on its Ukrainian site
The ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih steelmaking facility in Ukraine was again targeted by a ballistic strike. The attack resulted in the deaths of two contractors and two employees were injured.
Two deaths and two injured in strike on pig iron production complex
ArcelorMittal stated that its Ukrainian unit, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, was struck by a ballistic missile attack. Two contractors were killed and two employees injured in the attack, with the latter receiving care in local hospitals.
The strike focused on the area of the number 1 pig iron production complex. This is the second missile strike targeting ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih facilities in five weeks. In mid-August, an earlier attack had already claimed two lives.
The group specified that its priority is to support the bereaved families as well as all employees affected by the strike.
Primary steel production halted, rest of site idle or running at reduced capacity
Primary steel production has been suspended for the duration of repair work. The remainder of the plant's facilities are either shut down or operated at minimal activity levels.
Specialized teams are currently assessing the extent of damage and the work required to resume operations. The group announced that new operational updates will be communicated once complete assessments have been carried out.
No estimate of restart timeframe at this stage
ArcelorMittal indicated that it was too early to provide a credible estimate of the duration of repair work. The group clarified that updates will be provided when damage assessments are completed and visibility on the repair schedule is sufficient.
