Arkema Announces Major Investment in China with a 20% Increase in PVDF Capacity by 2028
Arkema has announced a 20% expansion of its Kynar PVDF production capacity at its Changshu site in China, scheduled to start in 2028. This investment is part of the group's strategy to increase its presence in Kynar PVDF to meet the strong demand in Asia-Pacific and beyond.
Strategic Expansion to Meet Growing Market Demands
Arkema plans to utilize this additional capacity to support the growth in demand for Kynar PVDF across key markets: lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, high-performance coatings, chemical industry, semiconductor manufacturing, water filtration, and the cable market. The group emphasizes that this project meets the highest standards of operational excellence, reflecting its commitment to continuously improve its global production activities.
Leveraging a Global R&D Ecosystem
The expansion is supported by a global research and development ecosystem, including centers located in China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United States. Arkema is a global leader in the production of PVDF. The group also produces this polymer at its Calvert City site in Kentucky, USA, and at its Pierre-Bénite site in France. A capacity increase at Calvert City was announced last year and is set to start in the second quarter of 2026.
