Oxford Nanopore Technologies and bioMérieux have announced the launch of AmPORE-TB, a research use only (RUO) solution aimed at rapidly detecting mutations associated with antimicrobial resistance in the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex.
Leveraging Oxford Nanopore's nanopore sequencing technology, AmPORE-TB can analyze 24 genes linked to tuberculosis resistance and deliver comprehensive results in less than a day, using a GridION benchtop device and integrated automated analysis software. Recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the three targeted methods meeting its performance criteria for detecting resistance mutations, this solution addresses a major public health challenge: multidrug-resistant tuberculosis affects approximately 400,000 people each year globally. Manufactured by Oxford Nanopore and distributed by bioMérieux, AmPORE-TB will be deployed primarily in low and middle-income countries, where 99% of new cases are concentrated.
