Changi Rolls Out Its First Autonomous Tractors for Airside Operations
On January 20, 2026, Changi Airport in Singapore launched its first fleet of fully autonomous tractors. Currently, two driverless vehicles are handling the transportation of luggage between Terminals 1 and 4.
Operational Details
Two autonomous tractors are now operational at Changi Airport, tasked with transporting passenger luggage between the baggage handling areas of Terminals 1 and 4.
Technology and Safety
Each tractor is equipped with over ten sensors and cameras, enabling it to navigate safely within the airside environment, both day and night and in rainy weather. The vehicles are remotely monitored from a control center, where an operator can intervene immediately if necessary.
Future Expansion Plans
The airport plans to expand the fleet to 24 autonomous tractors by 2027, with future deployments intended for towing cargo and ground equipment in addition to luggage.
