Crédit Agricole and BCC-Grupo Cajamar Enter Strategic Partnership in Spain
Crédit Agricole S.A. and BCC-Grupo Cajamar, the leading Spanish cooperative banking group, announce the signing of a strategic agreement with a 9.9% minority stake acquisition by the French group in the Spanish group's parent company. This partnership includes commercial agreements in asset servicing, factoring, car leasing, and investment solutions.
Minority Stake Acquisition Accompanied by Commercial Agreements
The strategic agreement involves a 9.9% participation by Crédit Agricole S.A. in Banco de Crédito Social Cooperativo, the parent company of Grupo Cajamar. This partnership aims to accelerate the commercial development and organic growth of the Spanish cooperative group by enabling it to offer its clients an expanded range of financial products and services. The commercial agreements cover asset servicing, factoring, car and other goods leasing, as well as investment solutions.
Further commercial initiatives may be developed later. This agreement is based on the cooperative foundations common to both groups.
Strengthening of Capital Ratio for Cajamar, Limited Impact for Crédit Agricole
In the short term, the transaction allows Grupo Cajamar to consolidate its equity structure. The cooperative group will see its total capital ratio increase from 16.6% to 17.1%. For Crédit Agricole S.A., the impact on the CET1 ratio is insignificant.
In the medium term, this agreement will contribute to strengthening the commercial positioning of Grupo Cajamar's 18 rural banks in the areas covered by the partnership and is expected to have a favorable impact on the net banking income of both groups. The transaction remains subject to approval by the relevant authorities and could be finalized in the coming months.
