Eiffage wins construction contract for Neomat Cam battery factory in Dunkerque
The construction and engineering group has been selected, as part of a consortium, for the earthworks and construction of buildings for the future Neomat CAM factory, dedicated to electric vehicle battery components.
This contract extends the group's recent series of awards in industrial and energy infrastructure.
A civil engineering contract for a cathode materials factory
Neomat CAM, a joint venture between XTC New Energy and Orano, has awarded the consortium led by Eiffage the contract for earthworks and construction of buildings for the future manufacturing plant for active cathode materials (CAM) components, intended for electric vehicle batteries.
The site is located in Dunkerque, in the municipalities of Gravelines and Loon-Plage. The announcement was made on September 9, 2026, and follows the laying of the foundation stone on May 29, 2026, then the christening of the tunnel boring machine intended to dig the tunnel for effluent pipelines, held on July 16, 2026.
A consortium combining multiple Eiffage trades and two partners
The consortium is composed of Eiffage Génie Civil (lead partner), Eiffage Construction, Eiffage Métal, Eiffage Route, as well as the companies Bemaco and Ramery. It will oversee the construction of a factory with a total area of approximately 60,000 m², including notably a 45,000 m² workshop, a 5,900 m² warehouse, an industrial water treatment station of 5,650 m² and a 2,500 m² utilities zone.
The work will require 37,000 m³ of concrete via a plant installed on site, approximately 3,000 tonnes of reinforcement as well as 6,200 tonnes of steel for the metal framework, predominantly sourced from France and Europe.
A construction site mobilizing up to 400 people until 2028
Up to 400 people, primarily from the Dunkerque area, will be mobilized for these construction and development works, which will continue until 2028. The Neomat CAM project represents an investment of nearly 500 million euros and is part of the development of the European battery industry for electric vehicles.
The factory aims for a nominal capacity of 40,000 tonnes of active cathode materials per year, with production scheduled to begin in late 2028. This contract comes after several recent awards for the group, including a 162 million euro contract for two recovery units in Limoges and Grenoble announced on August 24, 2026.
