Ekinops: German operator 1&1 Versatel deploys the group's connectivity portfolio
German operator 1&1 Versatel has begun deploying Ekinops' connectivity portfolio for its managed services intended for businesses. This collaboration is based on equipment installed at customer premises, combining multiple services within a centralized platform.
1&1 Versatel, national fiber operator, selects Ekinops equipment
Ekinops (Euronext Paris, FR0011466069) announced on September 7, 2026 that 1&1 Versatel GmbH, a German telecommunications operator based in Düsseldorf with national fiber optic coverage, has begun deploying its connectivity portfolio. The collaboration is based on Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) installed at customer locations, such as routers, combining multiple services within a centralized platform. This new generation of equipment supports fiber connections as well as DSL or mobile connections.
Up to 10 Gbit/s and approximately 35% less energy than previous equipment
According to the press release, the new CPE models consume on average approximately 35% less energy than the solutions previously used by Versatel. These equipment enable connections reaching up to 10 Gbit/s as well as flexible use of very high-speed services, notably secure telephony, Internet access, Ethernet connections and virtual private networks.
A single supplier for layers 2 and 3
Martin Fischer, Chief Technical Officer of 1&1 Versatel, indicated that reducing the number of CPE models brings flexibility and simplifies management across the entire equipment lifecycle. Frank Dedobbeleer, Director of EMEA and APAC Development at Ekinops, stated that by relying on a single supplier for its layers 2 and 3 requirements, with multiple functions provided by a single equipment and unified software, 1&1 Versatel can accelerate the deployment of its services, reduce complexity and have a scalable foundation for enterprise connectivity over fiber, DSL and 5G.
