Ekinops Signs a 10-Year Contract with Proximus for the Neuron Optical Network
Ekinops has entered into a multi-year framework agreement with Proximus, a Tier 1 Belgian telecom operator, for the deployment of a high-speed national optical network named NEURON. This supplier contract spans 10 years and represents the culmination of the memorandum of understanding announced in March 2026.
Optical Deployment Covering More Than 600 Sites in Belgium
The NEURON project (Next generation Enhanced Uniform Reliable Optical Network) aims to deploy a high-speed national optical network across Belgium, encompassing over 600 sites. Ekinops will provide optical network equipment and services based on its WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology. Proximus selected Ekinops' WDM platform notably for its ability to handle all traffic rates, from very low client speeds to very high speeds, within a chassis compatible with 1.6 Tbit/s (terabits per second).
Provision of Infrastructure and Network Management Solutions
As part of this long-term agreement which includes commitments to future developments, Ekinops will provide infrastructure systems supporting an optical capacity of 800 Gbit/s (gigabits per second), as well as a wide range of ROADMs (Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers) intended for Proximus's backbone and metropolitan networks. The provision also includes the Celestis NMS network management solution, along with associated software and professional services, to support Proximus in building its next-generation optical infrastructure.
Schedule: Immediate Testing, Deployment in the Second Half of 2026
The project schedule includes laboratory and field trials, starting immediately. An initial deployment is planned for the second half of 2026.
