Eramet Stock: Over 22% Drop Following Announcement of Financial Restructuring Plan
This Thursday, Eramet's stock experienced a sharp decline, losing more than 22% during the session to trade around 46.82 euros. This correction follows the announcement of a structural plan aimed at improving the financial situation of the mining group. The price has significantly breached its main technical benchmarks, amid strong selling pressure.
Details of the Restructuring Plan
The plummet of Eramet's stock follows the release on Wednesday, February 18, of a plan aimed at enhancing cash generation and consolidating the balance sheet of the group. Approved by the board of directors, this plan is based on three pillars: an operational optimization program named ReSolution, a strategic review of the asset portfolio including monetization scenarios, and a project to strengthen equity. It is presumably this last aspect that heavily impacts the stock price, as such operations generally involve a dilutive effect for existing shareholders. Following this announcement, Portzamparc downgraded its price target from 58.00 to 50.00 euros, while adopting a 'reduce' recommendation for the stock. At the current level of 46.82 euros, the price is already below this new target, which represents a rebound potential of about 6.8% according to this estimate. The publication of the annual results for 2025, scheduled for February 28, will be a crucial moment to assess the extent of the group's financial difficulties and the credibility of its plan.
Technical Analysis of the Stock
From a technical standpoint, February 19 marks a major break. At 46.82 euros, the stock has significantly breached its former support level at 57.60 euros and has fallen below the lower boundary of the Bollinger Bands, set at 51.17 euros, signaling an exceptionally intense selling movement. The price is now considerably distant from its 50-day moving average, which stands at 64.93 euros, illustrating the magnitude of the disconnect with the recent trend. The Relative Strength Index (RSI), an indicator measuring buying or selling pressure, is at 23, well below the threshold of 30 that usually indicates an oversold condition. This extreme level reflects the severity of the ongoing correction, the most significant for the stock in several months. Over one year, the decline now reaches 16.54%, while the performance over three months is at -14.41%. The monthly volatility, at 20.19%, is expected to mechanically increase in the coming sessions given the amplitude of the movement observed this Thursday.
