EssilorLuxottica Share Falls to 4-Year Low, Dropping 2.5%
EssilorLuxottica crosses a negative threshold on Thursday, breaking through a level that had held since 2022. The stock closes at the bottom of the CAC 40 as the macroeconomic environment weighs on all European consumer stocks.
A four-year low marked during the session after the breach of support at €148.55
The share touched €145.75 during the session, erasing the previous floor of €145.85 established in 2022, a year marked by the war in Ukraine and the sharp rise in interest rates. This is a four-year negative record that fits into an already well-underway decline: EssilorLuxottica falls 2.08% during the session to €145.90, after breaking through its technical support at €148.55, which no longer plays its cushioning role. Over one month, the decline reaches 15.32%, and over one year, the drop exceeds 43%. The chart configuration remains heavily degraded.
The price is evolving below its three moving averages: the 20-day MA at €158.84 (gap of -8.15%), the 50-day MA at €164.91 (-11.53%) and the 200-day MA at €208.64 (-30.07%). The RSI at 30 is approaching the oversold zone, reflecting the exhaustion of the downward momentum without signaling a reversal. The stock records the largest decline in the CAC 40 on Thursday, in a Parisian market that falls only 0.38% during the session.
CIC Market Solutions Maintains Buy Rating with €250 Target Despite Board Pressure
In this context of marked decline, CIC Market Solutions confirmed on Thursday its buy rating on EssilorLuxottica, with a price target maintained at €250, representing a rebound potential of nearly 71% compared to the current price. This rating comes as the group's board of directors published on September 9 a statement reaffirming its unanimous support for Francesco Milleri and the group's strategy, in response to recent press articles and public statements. This board support has nonetheless failed to stem the selling pressure on the stock. On the fundamental side, following the publication of first-half 2026 results on July 28, the group reported adjusted operating income up 15% at constant exchange rates and free cash flow of €1.07 billion.
The negative impact of currencies was the main constraint at the time, bringing the reported margin to 18.6% compared to 18.9% at constant rates. In the current macroeconomic context, the ECB decision expected on Thursday of a rate hike to 2.50% and the surge in Brent above $100 are adding additional pressure on discretionary consumer stocks, in which EssilorLuxottica operates through its positioning in premium optics. The next fundamental milestone remains the publication of the group's activity data for the second half.
