Forsee Power Signs Agreement with Wabtec to Integrate PULSE PLUS RAIL Battery and Optimize Locomotive Ownership Costs
The company has signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at accelerating the integration of its PULSE PLUS RAIL system into Wabtec's locomotive platforms to enhance performance, reliability, and total cost of ownership. A memorandum frames this project, which aims to improve the performance and reliability of battery electric locomotives.
A Memorandum of Understanding for Battery Integration in Locomotives
Wabtec, recognized as a leader in freight locomotives, introduced the world's first battery-electric freight locomotive in 2021. This collaboration aligns with the equipment manufacturer's strategy to continue the electrification of rail transport.
Technical Specifications of the PULSE PLUS RAIL Battery
Forsee Power's PULSE PLUS RAIL system utilizes Toshiba's latest generation cells (LTO technology) to offer a lifespan of up to 20 years, very high power, and a voltage range up to 1,500 V DC. The battery incorporates an advanced liquid thermal management system to ensure extended longevity even in extreme temperatures and demanding operating cycles.
The system meets the strictest safety standards (IEC 62-928, IEC 62-619, IEC 62-620, EN 50-126) and rail operation requirements (IEC 61 373, EN 45-545, IEC 60-077, UN38.3, EN 15 085, EN 17-460). Its architecture includes advanced digital features to maximize vehicle availability and operational efficiency. It is also designed to meet the needs of both freight and passenger rail applications.
Industrial Strengths and Expanding Market Potential
Forsee Power brings to this collaboration a history of product performance, dedicated expertise in rail R&D, global after-sales service capabilities, and an industrial presence in Ohio, ensuring compliance with Buy America criteria. This North American industrial presence is a key element for Wabtec in terms of supply chain.
Beyond locomotives, the PULSE PLUS RAIL system supports rapid charging operations and opens new opportunities in mining truck applications, a strategic market where Wabtec is a global leader in developing transmission chains. Forsee Power's battery systems are entirely designed by its engineering teams (software included) and manufactured in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America.
