Forvia Signs Agreement with GDELS for the Transfer of Augsburg Site and About 300 Employees
Automotive supplier Forvia has signed an agreement for the transfer of its Augsburg, Germany site to General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS), pending regulatory approvals and staff consultation procedures. The transaction involves the transfer of the site and about 300 employees, marking a step in the group's Ignite refocusing plan.
Transfer of Augsburg Site to Defense Sector
Forvia has entered into an agreement with GDELS concerning the transfer of its Augsburg facility in Germany. The transaction is subject to obtaining regulatory approvals and completing information and consultation procedures with employee representatives. The site and its approximately 300 staff members will be transferred to General Dynamics, a company specializing in defense equipment.
A Nine-Month Transition Plan
The two companies have developed a joint plan to steer the site towards defense activities over a nine-month period. This skill enhancement program aims to capitalize on automotive expertise in industrial excellence and large-scale quality. Jean-Pierre Schmitt, SVP Europe Division at Forvia Clean Mobility, stated that the agreement should 'secure current jobs while allowing the Augsburg site to gradually adapt to defense activities.' Forvia emphasizes that customer satisfaction will remain a priority throughout the transition, with dedicated teams responsible for executing ongoing programs and maintaining long-term partnerships.
Part of the Ignite Plan
This operation is part of the first phase of the Ignite plan, presented during Forvia's Investor Day, which aims to refocus the group's activities and enhance its competitiveness. The transaction helps to preserve jobs and the sustainability of the site while supporting the improvement of Forvia's financial profile.
