Germany Places New Order for Meteor Missiles with MBDA
On January 21, 2026, MBDA announced that Germany has signed a new order for Meteor air-to-air missiles. The contract was awarded by the IJPO (Meteor Integrated Joint Programme Office) on behalf of the BAAINBw, the German federal agency responsible for Bundeswehr equipment.
Collaborative European Effort
The Meteor missile is the product of a collaboration among six European countries: Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, and Sweden. The missile's ramjet propulsion system is produced in Germany by Bayern-Chemie, a subsidiary of MBDA.
Integration Across Multiple Combat Platforms
The Meteor missile is equipped on several aerial combat platforms, including the Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen, and KF-21 Boramae. In 2025, the missile was integrated into the F-35B, with ground tests conducted prior to its first flight on the F-35A. In November 2025, the Brazilian Air Force confirmed successful test firings of the Meteor missiles from its F-39E Gripen E fighters.
Contract Details Remain Confidential
The total amount and number of missiles ordered by Germany have not been disclosed.
