Hermès shares slip to €1,552 and remain below its three moving averages
The Paris-based luxury goods maker's shares declined on Tuesday during the session, in a broadly downward European market. The pullback reflects persistent weakness over the past year, as the technical chart remains under pressure with the price trading below its three moving averages.
A pullback that extends the slide below key moving averages
Hermès International fell 1.8% during the session to €1,552.50, while the CAC 40 lost 0.5%. The stock is trading below its 20-day moving average at €1,582.60 (gap of -1.90%) and its 50-day moving average at €1,609.53 (gap of -3.54%), two thresholds that last week's rebound had failed to sustainably break through. The distance to the 200-day moving average, which is trading at €1,823.53, reaches nearly 15%, reflecting the magnitude of the decline accumulated from the highs.
The RSI at 49 remains neutral and signals neither overbought nor oversold conditions, leaving the structural downtrend to set the tone without any clear reversal signal. The support level at €1,508.50 now constitutes the next zone to monitor if selling pressure were to intensify.
Fundamentals under pressure from currency headwinds and mixed sector dynamics
When first-half 2026 results were released (July 29, 2026), the company reported an unfavorable currency impact of more than €360 million on revenue, weighing on performance at current exchange rates. The Middle East region declined by 4% and the Perfumes and Beauty division fell 4% at constant exchange rates, two business lines that had then intensified the stock's correction. Meanwhile, the sector backdrop remains challenging: Swiss watch exports to China fell 16.5% year-over-year, while Chinese retail sales of jewelry and gold posted a decline of over 10% in July 2026, a signal that weighs on all luxury stocks exposed to the region.
The analysts' views on the stock remain to be monitored in this context. In today's session, Hermès ranks 32nd in the CAC 40, in an index where Kering declined 2.30% and LVMH fell 0.95%, illustrating common pressure on the luxury sector. The €1,508.50 threshold remains the technical reference to watch in the coming sessions.
