HRS Launches its Hydrogen Secure Power Unit to Safeguard Data Centers
Hydrogen Refueling Solutions announced on Thursday the commencement of its Secure Power Unit (SPU), a hydrogen-based electricity production solution aimed at securing the energy supply for data centers and critical infrastructures. This demonstrator is part of the French group's diversification strategy into adjacent energy markets.
A Demonstrator to Validate the Hydrogen-Electricity Architecture
HRS is developing its first Secure Power Unit, a modular energy backup solution designed for critical infrastructures, data centers, and sensitive industrial sites. The demonstrator will incorporate PEM fuel cells supplied by Ballard Power Systems, a leading global partner in fuel cell technology. This unit will be installed in 2027 at the HRS testing area in Champagnier. It will validate key technological components: hydrogen-electricity integration, security architecture, control-command, supervision, operational procedures, and initial performance levels.

HRS is expanding its position in the hydrogen value chain by capitalizing on its expertise in hydrogen storage and distribution, integration of complex systems, industrial safety, and real-time supervision. The SPU program aims for an initial configuration of 1 megawatt, sized to meet the security needs of critical infrastructures, with the potential to scale up to multi-megawatt solutions for intensive industrial and digital applications. Hassen Rachedi, founder and CEO, states: 'This milestone marks a concrete step in our diversification strategy. We are entering an operational phase to validate our hydrogen-electricity architecture, moving forward meticulously to prepare a competitive, reliable, and high-performance industrial offering.'
