NFL Biosciences Validates NFL-102 Production Ahead of Phase 2 TONIC Trial
NFL Biosciences announces the successful manufacturing of a clinical batch of NFL-102, its anti-smoking drug candidate, and the full validation of its production chain to international standards. With this milestone achieved, the company is preparing to launch the TONIC Phase 2 clinical trial.
Validation of a Complete Production Chain from Extract to Final Form
NFL Biosciences has successfully manufactured a batch of NFL-102 compliant with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The validation covers the entire process: production of the tobacco extract, purification, quality controls, sterilization, aseptic filling into vials, lyophilization, and release of the finished product. Analytical controls performed on this batch have confirmed its compliance with the expected specifications. This mastery of the production chain is strategically important for development: potential pharmaceutical partners expect a biotech to demonstrate not only the clinical potential of its candidates but also its ability to manufacture them according to robust and reproducible processes that meet international regulatory requirements and future commercialization.
Industrial Partnerships and Already Scaled Infrastructure
NFL Biosciences has structured its industrial organization upstream by relying on recognized partners: Fareva for the production of the tobacco extract, Meribel Pharma Solutions for the manufacturing operations of the finished product, and Eurofins for key analyses. The sterilization, aseptic filling, and lyophilization operations were carried out on industrial production lines used for the manufacturing of drugs intended for commercialization. This approach allows the company to rely on an established industrial infrastructure, already compatible with future phases of clinical development and potential scale-up needs. It also reduces industrial risk by validating key elements of its CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) strategy, a prerequisite for partnership discussions and subsequent development stages.
Preparation for TONIC Trial
The Phase 2 TONIC clinical trial, which is currently being prepared, will aim to confirm the safety of NFL-102, evaluate its clinical efficacy, and select the optimal dose for further development. NFL Biosciences plans to finalize the final preparatory steps, including the preparation of the regulatory dossier and logistical organization, in order to submit the clinical trial application to ANSM as planned by mid-2026.
